In 2017, CNBC released a list of the most stressful jobs in America; event planner landed at #5. Additionally, May is one of the busiest times of the year for our team. How do you keep feelings of pressure at bay during this time as an event professional? We asked around the office for advice—here’s what these professional de-stressors do to stay sane.

I wake up early and try to have some quiet time to drink my coffee before I start my day and the rest of my house is up .

Deciding to keep technology off for a couple hours between dinner and my kid’s bedtime. Really trying to focus on them for a little bit instead of working the entire time .

Forgive myself for yesterday’s mistakes.

I practice yoga every day. I even try to make it a habit of attending one or two classes while traveling onsite—it’s fun to find and try new studios/classes/teachers around the world.

Take a deep breath and just relax with a nice cold beverage. Could be a nice cold beer, ice water, or one of my favorites: a nice big ol’ glass of 2% or whole milk.

I meditate for 11 minutes each day. I have found that meditating keeps me grounded and keeps the intensity of our work in perspective. I am more focused, more effective and more enthusiastic when meditation is a part of my daily routine. I use an app, Insight Timer, to help guide and track my meditations. I love the sounds they have, and the community they have built is very motivating to me.

I like to go bouldering. Also, smoothies.

Prioritize your to-do list. Highlight the top three things that must get done on that day and do those first .

Ask for help! Accept that asking for help when you’re maxed out is a sign of confidence, not weakness.

Let your spouse/partner know you’re entering a stressful stretch and ask for their patience with your moods or any not-the-best-version-of-you stuff in advance .

I try to work away from my desk in a different area to change the scenery when possible. The kitchen bar, couch in a sunny room, or outside on the patio. The breeze and sun change my attitude every time.

Working in the events industry can be as stressful as it is rewarding and fun. Don’t forget to borrow a few of the above tips during the busy season!
