Through the storytelling of Uncle Rodney Mason and his family, alongside the artwork of Amanda Longbottom and Shane Youngberry, and the movement of The Gamay Dancers, the Dreamtime story—wadgayangilnhay djadjanwari—was shared publicly for the first time beyond the Gweagal Clan.
The story speaks to the creation of the lands, waterways, and animals of what is now known as Sydney Harbour. Bringing this generational story to life respectfully and accurately was central to the project.
Over several years (2021–2024), we worked in close partnership with members of the Gweagal Clan, the Gujaga Foundation, the artists, and a Cultural Advisory panel to ensure the animation was guided, approved, and led by community at every stage.
Alongside this, we supported Amanda and Shane in translating their artwork into a digital medium, guiding the process from storyboarding through to filming and motion capture, and ultimately into a fully realized 3D animation.
