Doing Good for the Summer
Barbeques, afternoons at the pool, and giving back to the community. That’s what summer is all about, right? At Opus, it definitely is. Focusing on philanthropic efforts is a year-round affair for the agency, but during summer 2017, we worked on taking it up a notch. Here’s how.
Sports Equipment Drive
Oregon has beautiful summers that should be enjoyed outside. Unfortunately, not every kid has access to outside toys and gear. This summer, Opus held a sports equipment drive for Play.Fit.Fun, a local nonprofit that is fighting childhood obesity by encouraging families to play outside. We ended up collecting six large bags of gear for local kids!
Opus Vice Chairman Grant Hammersley is founder of the Children’s Cancer Association Pro-Am Golf Tournament. For the last nine years, golf lovers have gathered to play a round and raise funds for a good cause. CCA held the 2017 Pro-Am at the Oregon Golf Club in August. Tournament sponsors (including Opus) and participants raised over $215,000 for the Children’s Cancer Association. This will fund patient programs involving music, play and joy.
Maestros are no strangers to travel. With travel, comes many complimentary, travel-size toiletry items. Opus road warriors collect these items on work (and personal) trips, and bring them back to the Opus office to be donated to Bradley Angle, a local shelter that helps women and children affected by domestic violence.
Children’s Center Gala
Opus Agency is proud to support the Children’s Center, a child abuse prevention center in Oregon. Opus’ CEO, Monte Wood, is on the board of this impactful organization. Five Maestros attended the 6th annual Healing Garden Gala in September. Our partner, Airstream Adventures Northwest, raised $50,000 for the Children’s Center. By the end of the night, $332,700 had been raised for the Children’s Center!
We can’t wait to see what philanthropic opportunities we discover in the Fall!
